Winning the Mirror Ball Trophy may have made Robert Irwin a “Dancing With the Stars” champion, but it’s the relationships he formed along the way that left the biggest impression. Fresh off his big win, which happened to be a decade after his sister Bindi Irwin claimed her own Mirror Ball, the wildlife conservationist is reflecting on the castmates who helped him navigate life far outside his natural habitat. This includes one star he says felt instantly familiar: “She has Irwin vibes.”

Life After ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Ever since he and Witney Carson won the Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy, Robert has been very busy. The 22-year-old flew straight from the “DWTS” finale to South Africa to host the new season of the Australian version of “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.”

He’ll soon be heading back to the United States. Irwin will be appearing as a guest on the “Dancing With the Stars Live” tour from April 20 to April 30. Before that, he looks back at his time on the show and the special bond he formed with some of the castmates.

A Little Trust Circle

Irwin recently talked with Parade, stating he did get quite friendly with the star-studded cast of season 34. However, there were a few he particularly bonded with.

Robert said, “I grew really close with Danielle Fishel and Dylan Efron. I feel like those two, I don’t know. For some reason, we just kind of created this little trust circle with the three of us. And they’re just incredible.”

It seems that the former “Boy Meets World” star made an impression on Irwin. Robert said, “Danielle is just an absolute light. She’s just absolute sunshine whenever she walks into any room. And she was really there to give so much advice to to me and to so many other people. She has Irwin vibes. She feels like she’s just one of us.”

What advice did she give? Robert said, “Well, she gave me a lot of great advice just within kind of navigating this sort of world. I mean, I am now in a position where I’m in so many different environments. I’m not in my natural habitat all the time. I mean, I was out on the Great Barrier Reef snorkeling yesterday, and I’ll be feeding crocodiles this afternoon. So ‘Dancing With the Stars’ was a real step out of the comfort zone.”

Help on Finale Night

Robert went on to talk about how Danielle was even there for him and a support for him when he needed it most: Finale Night. Danielle had already been eliminated, but she came in to offer support in a critical moment.

“She came in on finale night,” he recalled. “And I had done my last dance, and she was in the audience. And she ran up to the skybox just to give me a hug and be like, ‘You did it! Well done.’ She was just someone to share all of the highs and lows with.”

Don’t forget about the third member of that circle: Dylan. Irwin said, “Dylan definitely grew to be a great mate within that whole experience. I think we share a lot of the same sort of passions. I’m wanting to get him out to Australia, maybe help me catch some crocodiles or something. I reckon he’d be up for that.”
