Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders seemingly took a shot at teammate Joe Flacco and other signal-callers around the league.

Much to the disappointment of many NFL fans, the Browns named Joe Flacco their starting quarterback for Week 1. Despite three lackluster starts up to this point (631 passing yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions), Flacco remains the QB1.

You may recall that Shedeur Sanders was visibly unhappy when he got benched for the Browns’ final drive in the last preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams. And judging by his latest comments, Sanders’ frustrations about remaining on the bench appear to be growing.

During an interview with ESPN Cleveland, Sanders criticized multiple NFL quarterbacks (potentially even Flacco) by stating that he could fare much “better than” them.

“I know if you see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that,” Shedeur Sanders said.

After unexpectedly falling out of the first four rounds, Sanders was drafted in the fifth round (No. 144 overall) by the Browns. Interestingly, news recently broke that Shedeur Sanders asked the Baltimore Ravens not to draft him, as he didn’t want to be stuck behind two-time MVP Lamar Jackson.

The wait for Sanders’ NFL debut drags on.

Browns Should Give Shedeur Sanders A Chance Sooner Rather Than Later

If Flacco were playing well, the Browns would have every reason to roll with him. But the 40-year-old is clearly not a capable starter at this phase of his career, and the rebuilding Browns are sabotaging themselves by keeping Sanders on the bench.

The Browns have nothing to lose by giving Sanders or Dillon Gabriel a chance. What if one of them comes off the bench and plays admirably? The Browns don’t know they have a potential franchise QB until/unless they give either guy a shot.

The other option would be to draft another quarterback in 2026. But then what? The Browns then wasted third and fifth-round picks on Gabriel and Sanders without giving them the chance to shine? They’re doing themselves no flavor by sticking with Flacco.
