However, rumors that he remains alive have surfaced online.

An X user going by the name Alh Rayyy cites a report from a “lesser-known journalist.” The journo claims to have spotted Khamenei alive.

“Rumors circulated yesterday suggesting 𝘈𝘺𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘩 𝘈𝘭𝘪 𝘒𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘪 had died. However, a lesser-known journalist reportedly spotted him this morning in the Sahara Desert, indicating he may still be alive and in hiding,” the tweet reads.

Ali Khamenei served as Iran’s President from 1981-1989 and held complete authority of the country’s government, military and religion.

The Mashhad-born Shia imam played a key role in the Iranian Revolution that overthrew the Shah in 1979. He succeeded Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini as Supreme Leader after his presidency.

Opposition to the U.S. and Israel defined his reign. He also supported Iran’s nuclear plans.

It goes without saying that readers should take rumors of him surviving Saturday’s attack with a grain of salt.
