Did Donald Trump make an exception?

Social media has had plenty to say following the release of Columbia University student Elaina Aghayeva.

ICE agents arrested Elaina at her apartment on Thursday morning. However, Donald Trump agreed to have her released after speaking with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

“Just got off the phone with President Trump. In our meeting earlier, I shared my concerns about Columbia student Elaina Aghayeva, who was detained by ICE this morning. He has just informed me that she will be released imminently,” Mamdani shared via X on Thursday afternoon.

The Department of Homeland Security said Elaina, a citizen of Azerbaijan, was in the U.S. on a student visa that the Obama Administration terminated in 2016 for failing to attend classes.

The school accused agents of misrepresenting themselves to access her apartment and detain her.

Columbia’s acting president, Claire Shipman, said five officials entered the off-campus building without a warrant and gained entry by saying they were police officers searching for a missing child.

“Once inside the apartment, it became clear they had misrepresented themselves. A public safety officer arrived, asked multiple times for a warrant, which was not produced, and asked for time to call his boss, which was not given,” Shipman said, per the New York Post.

“This was a frightening and fast-moving situation and utterly unacceptable for our students and staff,” she added. “Let me be clear — misrepresenting identity and other facts to gain access to a residential building is a breach of protocol.”

Social media got to talking after The Post reported Elaina’s release.

“What? Why? She illegally overstayed a visa from 10 years ago. Get her on the next boat out of here,” someone asked.

“Do you care that the agents who arrested her made false representations about who they were and why they wanted entry? They go low, and then they go lower,” another countered.

“Mamdani told Trump: “Not this one.” Trump agreed. LMAO 💀,” one joked.

“From an immigration hardliner, I’m willing to make an exception for this one,” another chimed in.

The university later confirmed Adhayeva’s release.

“The university is relieved and thrilled that our student, Ellie, has been released from detainment. We will share additional details this evening,” they wrote in a statement on Instagram.

Meanwhile, the DHS has told The Post that all of the agents were wearing badges and all identified themselves, adding that the apartment’s building manager and her roommate let them in.

Luka Doncic ‘destroys’ the Mavs on his return. Gets standing ovation and shows love to Mark Cuban

Luka Doncic hits 45 points in his first game in Dallas since being traded to the Los Angeles.

It’s rare for a home crowd to cheer the visiting team, but Luka Doncic’s return to Dallas was no ordinary night.

Just days before February’s trade deadline, the Mavericks shocked the NBA by sending their 26-year-old superstar to the Lakers—a move that outraged fans and sparked backlash toward GM Nico Harrison.

On Wednesday, Doncic played his first game back in Dallas since the trade. The arena was filled with fans in both his old Mavs and new Lakers jerseys, many chanting “Fire Nico” in protest.

Despite the emotion in the air, Doncic delivered a dominant performance, scoring a game-high 45 points to lead the Lakers to a 112-97 win. It was a powerful return for one of the league’s brightest stars—and a night Dallas won’t soon forget

The Mavericks pay tribute to Luka Dončić

While the Mavericks’ decision to trade Luka Doncic remains heavily criticized, they handled his return to Dallas with undeniable grace. The organization made sure his first game back as a Laker was met with respect and appreciation.

Every seat in the arena was draped with a T-shirt reading “Hvala za vse,” which translates from Slovenian to “thank you for everything.” It was a thoughtful nod to Doncic’s heritage and impact on the franchise.

Before tip-off, during the starting lineup announcements, the Mavericks played a tribute video showcasing some of Doncic’s most iconic moments in a Dallas jersey. The emotional gesture clearly resonated—moving Doncic to tears in front of the crowd that once called him their own.

From the opening tip, Doncic was locked in. By halftime, Doncic had racked up 31 points on 11-of-16 shooting in just 19 minutes—marking the 10th time in his career he’s scored 30 or more in a single half.
