Even pro athletes get frustrated watching another sport. Sophie Cunningham is surely going through that feeling. The Indiana Fever guard grew up in Missouri, close to Arrowhead, and has always loved Kansas City and is a big fan. But last week, the Chiefs left her angry.
On her Show Me Something podcast, Cunningham showed her frustration. She said she kept one eye on the Chiefs while her Fever took care of the Chicago Sky. “You know what else is not spicy is our freaking Chiefs losing in their first game. What the hell?” she said. “I watched every second of it. I was pissed… Our team (Fever) was also playing. We were winning, we were playing (the) Chicago (Sky).”
That raw honesty fits Cunningham’s style. A few days ago, she showed the same blunt edge when she clapped back at Skip Bayless over one of his takes. This time, though, her frustration was aimed at the hometown team.
State Of The Chiefs And Cunningham As Well

Cunningham wasn’t alone. Chiefs fans everywhere had reason to stew after the 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil. A flat opener set the stage for Sunday’s heavyweight clash against Philadelphia. A loss to the Eagles would leave Kansas City 0-2 for the first time since 2014. That year ended without playoffs.
Patrick Mahomes has never started a season 0-2, which makes this week even bigger. The defending champs need urgency. It doesn’t help that the Chiefs are dealing with a few injuries and suspensions from the start of the season opener.
Cunningham made it clear she felt the frustration.
“We were winning by like, 20. So, I was watching that, but I also had (the football game) on my phone. I was in the suite. So, I wasn’t on the bench watching.”
Even during a strong Fever win, she couldn’t take her eyes off her Chiefs.
While she vents about the Chiefs, Sophie Cunningham is going through a lot. The Fever locked up a playoff spot, but they won’t have her or Caitlin Clark on the court. Both are out with injuries. For Indiana, the timing couldn’t be worse.
The Fever faced a tough challenge in the postseason, but somehow passed it. Now, their title hopes look slim without their sharpshooter and superstar player. Cunningham knows it. Fans know it. And just like with her Chiefs, disappointment is there.
