It was the 2024 All-Star game when Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark’s bonding really hit it off. Then Mercury forward praised the rookie and acknowledged her skills and popularity. In 2025, they joined hands at the Indiana Fever. Now, the 28-year-old forward had some words for another rookie, Paige Bueckers.
The Dallas Wings’ guard played against Cunningham’s team three times in the season so far. Even though she ended up losing all those games, her gameplay drew lots of praise. The Fever forward also made her feelings clear about the 2025 rookie.
Sophie Cunningham Shares Her Thoughts On Paige Bueckers
On the ‘Show Me Something’ Podcast, the former Missouri star talked about Wings’ sensation. She was a primary defender of the talented player, and now, she knows her better than ever. In the Podcast, she mentioned that she don’t have off-court relation with PB but lauded her skills and offensive game.
“I think she’s a good human and a great basketball player, but also a great teammate and phenomenal leader. She’s probably gonna get Rookie of the Year, as she should… She legit has a bag… she’s fun to play against. I like her,” Cunningham said in the Podcast (Via X/ericaf455).
These nice words certainly highlight the reigning NCAA champion’s game. Moreover ‘fun to play against indicates that Paige Buecker’s teaming up with Cunningham might not happen in near future. The forward also recalled an event where PB scored over her nd crowd booed the defender. She laughed out the incident as “good boo” from the crowd.
In three games played against the Indiana Fever, the 22-year-old guard scored 70 points, which is nearly 35% of the points (247 total) scored by the team. While she was offensively aggressive, she was more of a scorer than a facilitator in those games, with the Indiana franchise managing to cover her passes.
Dallas Wings Ruining Paige Bueckers’ Dream Rookie Season
The first overall pick of the 2025 WNBA draft had it coming. Everyone in the basketball fraternity was concerned about her growth in the struggling Wings franchise. Even though the front office provided her with some support, the team failed to live up to the expectations with PB on the roster. They are 12th in the league at the moment with an 8-22 record.

She matched most of Caitlin Clark’s record with her offensive play, but may make it into the postseason like the Fever did in 2024. Trading DiJonai Carrington indicates that the franchise is not thinking about the ongoing season and preparing for the next season already.
As for the Minnesota-born star, she will continue to rack up individual records and will look to put her team in a better position.
