Sophie Cunningham rehabbing her MCL

Sophie Cunningham is rehabbing to get back on the court.

Sophie Cunningham is rehabbing a season-ending torn MCL that she suffered during the 2025 season.

Cunningham has become one of the most entertaining players in the league, starting with her pregame outfits. She reached a new level of fame when she attacked a Connecticut Sun player to protect Caitlin Clark. Cunningham committed a flagrant foul on guard Jacy Sheldon, earning her a one-game suspension.

The major injury she suffered cut short her first season with the Fever. Cunningham was limited to 30 games this season, averaging 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds. She improved her efficiency from the floor. Cunningham shot career-highs of 46.9% from the field and 43.2% from three-point range.

She has been using the offseason to rehab so she is ready for the 2026 season. That led her to post her latest update on Instagram this week. Her first video featured her flexing her legs on a Peak Pilates Casita or Fit reformer machine.

A second video showed Sophie Cunningham’s legs spread wide as she stretched them on the same machine while lying down.

Where will Sophie Cunningham play basketball in 2026? Cunningham watched as the Indiana Fever produced one of the more surprising runs of the 2025 WNBA playoffs. They pushed the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces to a decisive Game 5 in the semifinals despite multiple key players being sidelined by injury. That included Cunningham, Caitlin Clark, Aari McDonald, and Sydney Colson.

The Fever acquired Cunningham from the Phoenix Mercury in a multi-team offseason trade. In her first season in Indiana, Cunningham became a key part of the rotation. Unfortunately, she was unable to play in the postseason after undergoing surgery to repair a torn MCL in her right knee.

Following the season, Cunningham saw her one-year, $100,000 contract expire. She is now an unrestricted free agent. ESPN’s Kevin Pelton predicted that the Fever would choose Makayla Timpson over Cunningham.

While she waits for a new deal, Cunningham continues to make strides off the court in her rehab.
