Sophie Cunningham admits she “nailed an old man” during a rare golf swing at the Annika Pro-Am, recalling her terrifying mishap, past squirrel incident, and lingering PTSD.

Sophie Cunningham has been quite in the news recently. Following her close bond with Caitlin Clark, the 29-year-old immediately became a fan-favorite. And despite her MCL injury keeping her out of WNBA action, the Fever star is having an eventful offseason. Cameras recently captured Cunningham at a Pacers game with Jade Jones.

However, one of the biggest highlights of her offseason was her appearance at the Annika Pro-Am. Accompanied by Fever teammates Clark and Lexie Hull, the 29-year-old guard had a fun time at the tournament.

Now, the Fever star had always felt a bit nervous about joining Clark and her golf team. That’s because while Clark is an avid golfer, the ‘enforcer’s golf knowledge is a bit off. This led to Cunningham joking about getting booted from Clark’s crew. But much to her dismay, the 29-year-old had quite a traumatic experience at the Annika.

Sophie Cunningham Recalls Hitting An Old Man

Cunningham did have a fun time caddying for Clark at the Annika Pro-Am. But while she cheered her fellow Fever mate vociferously, the guard herself got to swing the club a couple of times.

It was at this exact moment that Cunningham did something so unexpected it still traumatizes her to this day. In a recent episode of the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, the WNBA star recalled her horrific experience.

I got to swing a golf club on the golf channel and I nailed an old man,” Cunningham said“I went and I was lke ‘Alright, I haven’t swung a golf club in 10 year, I just had knee surgery, like this is gonna go bad’. The last time I swung a club, I killed a f****** squirrel out on a tree… so, little PTSD there.”

Surely, this was not a pleasant sight for the 29-year-old star. Surprisingly, while one person was actually hit, several others faked injuries to capture a very special moment.

Fans Faked Injuries To Get Hugs From Sophie Cunningham

As Clark, along with the likes of Nelly Korda, battled it out on the faraway, Cunningham, too, got a piece of the pie. And the moment the crowd saw her readying to take a swing, they were immediately up on their feet.

In a weird turn of events, Cunningham’s shot went right and straight into the crowd. While it hit a fan, several other fans started to fake their injuries and started falling on the ground.

Thus, with Cunningham making some offseason memories, fans will now wait to see if she gets to stay with the Fever for one more season or not.
