Sophie Cunningham Reveals How She Really Feels About NASCAR’s Fan Base
Cunningham gave her opinion.
Sophie Cunningham spent part of her WNBA break hanging out at a NASCAR race on Sunday.
The Indiana Fever guard attended the Cup Series race in Illinois, where she spent the day meeting drivers, snapping photos with fans, and even appearing on the pre-race TV show.
Cunningham clearly enjoyed the experience. She also found plenty of similarities between herself and the drivers she watched compete.
NASCAR Fans Have Plenty To Say About Cunningham

During the pre-race show, Cunningham explained why she enjoys watching NASCAR drivers show their feisty side.
“I think I’ve kind of mastered that art, a little bit. I get a little feisty, if you know what I’m saying,” Cunningham said. “I do think it is part of the sport. You got to have a one-up on people, and sometimes it’s not physical, it’s the mental game.”
Cunningham also had plenty to say about NASCAR’s fan base.

The Fever guard said she can relate to many of the fans and what they believe in. She then offered a simple compliment to the crowd.
“You guys are salt of the earth people,” Cunningham said.
NASCAR fans also enjoyed having Cunningham around during Sunday’s race.
One fan praised Cunningham, “The problem with Sophie Cunningham is, well, she is fun. She is kind, She is pretty, She is smart, She has common sense, She has charisma, She is lovable.”

Others focused on her potential beyond basketball.
“Sophie has a future in media after her WNBA career. Sports or politics, her future remains very bright,” one fan wrote.
Another fan praised her work on the microphone.
“A natural with the mic–she’s a star at everything she does,” the fan said.
Cunningham has built a great Instagram following during her time with the Fever, and now, popping up at the race showed off a fun new side of her.
She was only at the track for the day, but she looked right at home with everyone there. And judging by how the crowd reacted, NASCAR fans would love to have her back anytime.
