Fever’s Sophie Cunningham reveals she wants to bring her “girly side” outside the WNBA@sophie_cham instagram
Before joining the Indiana Fever in January 2025, Sophie Cunningham was already shining in the WNBA, playing her first six seasons for the Phoenix Mercury, not only for her competitive spirit, energy, and humor, but also for her fashion sense.
The 29-year-old point guard steals the show (and the flashes) every time she walks through the tunnels before each game she plays and on social media when she shares her outfits with her followers. In this regard, she herself stated what her purpose is and the message she wants to convey on and off the court.
Sophie reveals what she wants to bring to the sport
Cunningham averaged 8.6 points, 1.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals before tearing the LCM in her right knee in a game against the Connecticut Sun. In August, she underwent surgery and, after 30 games with Indiana, had to end her first year with the team.
Despite her absence and five other injured players (including Clark), the team qualified for the playoffs for the second consecutive year and reached the semifinals, where they fell to the Las Vegas Aces in Game 5. And regardless of whether she was on crutches or still playing for Indiana, the 29-year-old point guard turned heads with her outfits.
In an interview with Sporting News, the 29-year-old player was asked about her style: “I’m sassy, but when I’m off the court, I just want to bring the more girly side, girly aspect to the sport, and so for me, that’s what I’m all about,” Sophie began.
“I love wearing something a little spicy, you know, sometimes it’s cozy, but I think it’s just a fun way to express yourself through clothing. And the tunnel fits have definitely been a big thing that’s been turning a lot of people’s heads,” she added.

During the interview, she also said that she doesn’t always get advice from a stylist and that she likes to wear different brands: “It’s anywhere in between. I also love Amazon and Revolve, and used Shopbop quite a bit because, you know, we have a lot of games, and sometimes when you’re constantly buying, you just run out of closet space.”

Meanwhile, as she recovers from her knee injury, Cunningham is preparing for a new season in the WNBA, although it is still unknown which jersey she will wear.
She will be a free agent once the transfer period opens on February 1, so her place with the Indiana Fever is not confirmed. Only Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Makayla Timpson have contracts through 2026.
