Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White stated that Caitlin Clark is not yet able to practice, keeping her status unchanged.
The Indiana Fever is going to have a tough time ahead. One of the biggest setbacks is the team playing without their star player, Caitlin Clark. Despite facing her toughest challenges sitting on the bench, there is not much that can be done. And while the fans eagerly waited for some good news on the 2024 Rookie of the Year, head coach Stephanie White poured cold water on fans’ hopes.
The Indiana Fever is sixth on the WNBA table at the moment. With 19 wins and 16 losses, things are looking a bit tight for the team. Fans are eagerly waiting for Clark to get back. Unfortunately, as per White, that is not happening anytime soon.
Stephanie White Delivers Blunt Response Towards Possible Caitlin Clark Comeback
It has been 20 games since the 23-year-old took to the hardwood in the Fever’s jersey. Nursing a lingering groin injury, Clark has only been able to play 13 games so far. However, only the other day, the Fever head coach stated that the face of the WNBA has commenced with her endurance training. Naturally, such an update made the fans speculate whether the young phenom would be returning.

Well, apparently, the return timeline for the former Iowa star is still pretty much in murky waters. According to a social media update from Chloe Peterson on X, Stephanie White made a sad announcement. When asked about a date, White shrugged off the possibility. She stressed the fact that Clark has yet to have practice with the team. And until she is fit enough to practice, there cannot be an update on her return.
“Until she can get into practice, and until you guys see her in practice, it’s really status quo, same as same as we have been,” said White.
Now, this update does mean that speculations of Clark’s return following Kyra Lambert’s release were not true. This will only make Indiana’s task tougher. In a bid to push for the playoffs, the Fever has some stiff opponents at hand. They will have to face the Minnesota Lynx next in back-to-back games. Meanwhile, WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes had her honest take on whether the Fever will be able to qualify for the playoffs without Clark or not.
Sheryl Swoopes Drops Indiana Fever’s Playoff Chances Without Caitlin Clark
Not having the team’s premier star is surely a situation that no team wants to be in. But surprisingly, despite so many injuries, the Fever has still managed to put up a decent fight. With the likes of Kelsey Mitchell and a newbie to the team, Odyssey Sims doing wonders, WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes has stated how the Fever still has a smooth path ahead to the playoffs.

“I think they have the pieces even if Caitlin doesn’t come back. It has been really impressive, some of these wins that they have been able to get without her. And we look at, you know, how they finished off July. They were on a five-game winning streak, and they were able to down teams like the Mercury, the Aces, the Storm,” Swoopes said on The Women’s Hoops Show.
Swoopes also highlighted how the Fever won the Commissioner’s Cup beating the Minnesota Lynx. And their recent 99-93 win against the Connecticut Sun also speaks volumes about the team’s depth.
