Joe Mixon was just as surprised about his status for the 2025 season as everyone else when it was reported on Thursday.
The Houston Texans do not expect to have Mixon available this season as he deals with a foot injury, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Mixon was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list in late August and had yet to play in a single game this year. Nick Chubb and Woody Marks have been the Texans’ main running backs, both playing 10 games.
Shortly after that news, the Houston Texans decided to waive veteran running back and fan favorite Dameon Pierce. It was a peculiar move, given that the Mixon news had just been released.
It turns out that it may not be true.

After Joe Mixon led the Houston Texans in rushing last year, the team had high hopes for him in 2025. However, he has not played in a game.
Mixon isn’t expected to play at all, at least according to Ian Rapoport. It was a shocking turn of events for someone who was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2024 during his first season in Houston.
After the news came out, Mixon took to social media and called out Rapoport over his report, saying:
“Now, I get everyone’s looking for splash news & clickbait… but I’m just curious, Ian, how do you know more about me than me? 🤔.”
Mixon’s comment suggests that there is still a chance he will return in 2025. Only time will tell.
The team could certainly use him, as they have not been very effective in the running game.
Texans general manager Nick Caserio last provided an update on Mixon’s status during a Nov. 18 appearance on SportsRadio 610‘s “Payne & Pendergast.”
“It’s just a very gray situation,” Caserio said of Mixon’s situation. “Joe’s worked at it and there are times when he’s made progress, and other times when the progress just kind of stalled there a little bit.”
Getting Mixon back can help, as well as CJ Stroud, who has been out since suffering a concussion.

Right after practice, Robert decided to fool around, skipping a few of the key steps Witney had JUST taught him. And Witney? Oh, she wasn’t letting that slide. With the most dramatic “teacher mode” expression ever, she marched him straight to the middle of the ballroom and gave him her “special treatment” — making him sweep the entire DWTS dance floor while she stood there with her arms crossed like the world’s tiniest but fiercest boss. The moment was pure gold. Robert laughing Witney pretending to be furious. The crew cracking up in the background. And just when fans thought it couldn’t get funnier, Witney dropped a playful bombshell: “Robert really causes trouble sometimes… and I will…”
