The One Direction band member shared the news during Part 1 of the finale on Monday, following the reveal that the Team Niall trio, Dek of Hearts, had advanced to the finale after securing America’s Wildcard vote.

Host Carson Daly first mentioned that Niall was “really under the weather” and shared earlier concerns that he wouldn’t be present for the live show.

The singer, however, said he was feeling “a little bit better,” but his doctors ordered him to vocal rest, meaning he had to sit out on his scheduled performance.

Niall was expected to sing with Dek of Hearts and his other finalist, Aiden Ross, who he said would instead be singing with fellow coach, Reba McEntire.

Reba applauded the Slow Hands singer for taking some much-needed rest to aid his recovery.

“I’m very proud of you, Niall, for making sure you take care of yourself because we want you around with your beautiful voice for many years to come,” the country star sweetly said.

Fans reacted to Niall’s news online, with many expressing their disappointment that he wouldn’t be performing as he had in past finales.

“I am so crushed that Niall is on vocal rest and won’t sing at all tomorrow. The finale just won’t be the same. However, resting his beautiful vocals is priority. Let’s lift him up and get that third win for #TEAMNIALL!” one person wrote on X.

“So sorry that Niall has been sick and won’t be able to sing. Feel better soon Niall!!” another commented.

“So i’m really not getting a niall and aiden performance together,” cried a third.

“NIALL ISNT SINGING? OH WE SO LOST,” remarked a fourth.

“Niall on vocal rest were already robbed of him singing with Aiden tomorrow,” echoed a fifth.

“Niall’s been sick and is on vocal rest? My baby,” chimed in a sixth.

“NIALL ON VOCAL REST NOOOOOOOO,” chimed in a seventh.

Niall had worried fans hours before the episode when he was noticeably absent from a promo clip for the finale.

The video was posted on The Voice’s official Instagram page, showing only Reba and coaches Michael Bublé and Snoop Dogg.
