Sophie Cunningham was involved in a confrontation with police on Thursday night.

The Indiana Fever guard, who recently lashed out at the Kansas City Chiefs, was ruled out with a season-ending injury several weeks ago. But, despite losing both her and Caitlin Clark, the Fever have managed to advance in the postseason for the first time in 10 years.

Both players have remained around the team while sidelined, which is why Sophie probably felt the need to go after Angel Reese over her treatment of her teammates.

Indiana beat the Atlanta Dream 87-85 on Thursday night, making it to the second round of the WNBA playoffs, a first since 2015.

In the fourth quarter of the game, Fever guard Odyssey Sims was thrown to the ground after colliding with the Dream’s Allisha Gray. The bump was reviewed for a flagrant foul, with Cunningham walking to the center of the court to check on Sims while the refs were going through the footage.

A police officer motioned for Cunningham to step back while she approached her teammate, but she stood her ground with her hands on her hips while they exchanged words, before backing down after a few seconds.

You can see the interaction in the video below, which has gone viral on Twitter/X.

Fans on social media were left confused, questioning why Cunningham was stopped from checking on her teammate. However, given that she was dressed in street clothes, it is possible that the officer was unaware of who she was.

Cunningham tore her right MCL a little over a month ago when she collided with Bria Hartly during a game against the Connecticut Sun.

The injury cut her campaign short, but she is expected to be back for the start of the 2026 WNBA season.

As for Indiana, they will play the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA semifinals, with Game 1 tipping off on Sunday.
