Football fans are shocked over how much San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will pay in taxes on his $265 million extension.

Last week, Purdy and the 49ers agreed to a lucrative five-year deal worth $265 million that includes $181 million in guarantees. The 2022 “Mr. Irrelevant” was heading into the final season of his four-year rookie deal.

It’s easy to be blown away by that $265 million figure, but Purdy will only take home about 50 percent of that when all is said and done. Like every honest and hard-working citizen, Purdy also has to pay his taxes, and the state of California has one of the highest state tax rates in the country.

As noted by the ML Football X/Twitter account, Brock Purdy will pay $19.567 million in federal income tax, $7.529 million in California state tax, $1.254 million in federal payroll taxes and $1,686 in the California State Disability Insurance taxes. That amounts to $28.352 million in taxes, meaning he’ll take home $24.647 million of his $53 million average annual value.

Social media had plenty of interesting reactions to the post about Purdy’s hefty tax bill.

“It really is an uneven playing field for states like CA, NY, MA vs Tennessee, Texas and Florida,” one user wrote.

“People in California literally voted for this,” said another.

“Bruh really lost a whole Josh Allen contract to taxes 💀 playing QB in Cali should come with hazard pay,” wrote a fan.

“This is robbery,” quipped a fan.

“That’s insane!” wrote another.

“So sad only 24 million dollars, how will he ever live?” remarked a fan.

Brock Purdy Will Be Just Fine Financially

Obviously, there’s a huge gap between $53 million annually and $24.647 million annually, but Purdy is still making more than enough money to set up his family, future children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

If Purdy continues to play at a high level, he’ll secure himself at least one more big contract when his $265 million deal is up. So shed no tears for 2022 Mr. Irrelevant and his giant tax bill.

Tony Romo speaking on CBSTony Romo (Photo via CBS)
Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is not the most popular guy on TV. That much was apparent while he was calling the Wild Card game between the Broncos and Bills for CBS on Sunday.

Romo, who has done very little to hide how much he admires Buffalo QB Josh Allen, had some praise for the MVP favorite while he was attempting to take his team to the Divisional Round.

Some fans felt like he was being overly gracious, while some simply couldn’t stand him talking in general.

“STFU AGAIN ROMO!!!!!!!!! I’M TIRED OF YOUR BILLS AND CHIEFS GLAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU’RE SICKENING ASF!!!!!!!!!!” an X user wrote.

“Can we start a petition to ban Romo from calling games,” another asked.

“Can Tony Romo get off his kneees for Josh Allen?” someone else chimed in.

“Tv muted when romo starts talking,” a fan claimed.

Tony Romo’s Partner Reached Impressive Milestone

While Romo was getting slammed, his broadcast colleague touched an impressive milestone.

Jim Nantz has been with CBS for over 40 years and reached his 500th game with the network calling Sunday’s fixture.

Nantz and Romo have been working together for seven of those 40 years.

Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson has emerged as one of the most prominent figures in women’s basketball. Her outstanding achievements and dominant performances on the court have boosted her confidence in her skills. However, this confidence has recently caused her some trouble, as NBA fans criticized her for a recent statement she made.

In a recent episode of the “Roommates” show, Wilson stunned both the NBA and WNBA by claiming that she could defeat New York Knicks star Josh Hart in a one-on-one matchup. Additionally, she predicted that the final score would be 11-8.

“Score would be 11-8, me. I’m not saying you gonna go scoreless, 8 to 11 is pretty solid. So, what do you think it’ll be, Josh?” Wilson said.

Although Josh and Wilson both had a good laugh during their conversation, Wilson’s comment stirred up the basketball community. “She’d lose 11-0 w him only playing w his offhand,” one fan said.
