Derek Hough has warned Dancing With the Stars viewers to “buckle in” for some tough eliminations during the current season, but didn’t heed his own advice when it came to keeping quiet about the sex of his unborn baby.
The ABC show’s judge and six-time Mirrorball champ is expecting his first child with wife Hayley Erbert, but the couple has opted to keep whether or not they’re having a boy or a girl secret until after their child is delivered.
However, during the show’s dedication night, which brought judges and fans to tears multiple times with the emotional routines, Derek may have slipped up and accidentally given fans his biggest hint yet when it comes to whether he will have a son or a daughter.
The moment in question came after Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles and her partner, Ezra Sosa, performed a Viennese Waltz dedicated to her father, Timothy, set to John Mayer’s track Daughters.
After the performance, when the judges were asked to give their critiques, Derek appeared to reveal that he is going to be the father of a little girl after Hayley gives birth.

“Watching you two dance, really made me excited to have that own, my own moment with my…” he started to say, before visibly pausing and attempting to rephrase his comment.
“My own child,” he then finished.
However, fans noticed the comment and the behavior–and after Derek himself appeared to poke fun at his blunder on his Instagram account with a video set to him visibly struggling to get words out, they quickly called out that he had let the secret out.
“WE ALL HEARD THAT DEREK!!!!!!!!!!!” one person wrote.

“Ooooo, so it’s a GIRL!!! The whole world heard it Derek. Too late! Congratulations to you both. I’m sure she’ll be healthy, smart, beautiful, and most importantly loved,” another said.
“Totally almost said ‘daughter,’” another commented.
“Not you slipping up. We felt so bad but was so happy at the same time,” another added.
Hough and his wife announced they were expecting their first child on social media in July.

Just sudden silence and then a camera rolling. The first episode replaced punchlines with gravity, centering on the name Virginia Giuffre and allegations long debated in public discourse. Within hours, view counts surged and timelines erupted with fierce arguments and stunned reactions. Supporters called it historic. Critics demanded proof. One episode. One name.
