Some NFL fans were not thrilled with that opening to the NFL Draft.

The 2025 NFL Draft is underway as we speak, but some NFL fans have already turned off their TV before the first pick even occurred. Why, you might ask? It wasn’t because Roger Goodell was booed by fans, as he often is at any major NFL event, but rather due to a former NFL linebacker bringing politics into sports with a message he shared with the crowd before the first-round pick was announced.

As Matthews breaks the script, I’m sure that TV producers for ESPN, ABC, and NFL Network all began sh*tting themselves for what was to come, bracing themselves for the worst.

“I’m going to go off script here real quick, Roger, but I just got off the phone with the President, Donald Trump. He asked me to pass a message along to all 32 NFL franchises. So let me tell you what it reads here, alright? 

It says, ‘My fellow Americans, the Bears still SUCKKKKK.’”

Of course, given Matthews’ allegiance to the Green Bay Packers, there is no better way to rile up the crowd at Lambeau Field and throughout Wisconsin than to bring up their most significant rival when opening up the 2025 NFL Draft. Those in attendance at the draft roared with excitement,

However, the response from some on social media led to crickets. Given that the NFL has a longstanding history of trying to keep players politically neutral and not acting on their beliefs, especially when they lean right, and this wild opening to the draft throws all those efforts right down the drain.

And hilariously, Roger Goodell is seen stepping immediately out of frame as soon as Matthews said he was going off script, making sure he was not associated with anything that was about to come out of his mouth.

While I highly doubt that Trump actually passed this message along, given that he attended the Super Bowl, it was a great way to incorporate some patriotism into the 2025 NFL Draft. However, left leaning NFL fans despise the moment and were pissed (to put it lightly) to hear Trump’s name in the early minutes of the draft.
