Eventually, everything comes to light. During their time together in the LSU locker room, Flau’Jae Johnson and Angel Reese forged a close friendship that seemed like it could last even when Reese made the jump to the WNBA in 2024. However, recent statements from Johnson revealed the sad truth.

Johnson and Reese were teammates on the Tigers from 2022 to 2024. In that span, they helped LSU win a national championship in 2023 and reach the playoffs in 2024. A bond like that isn’t easily broken. However, their relationship isn’t the same as before, Flau’Jae admitted.

A fractured friendship

In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club radio show, Johnson revealed the hard truth. “We’re not friends, but that bond, that thing we did together, winning a national championship, you can never take that away from us.”

The Tigers star declined to elaborate, simply saying, “Sometimes, stuff happens. You wish it didn’t happen, but it does, and you just gotta grow.” But just because their friendship isn’t what it once was doesn’t mean she isn’t proud of what her former teammate is doing.

“I support her and everything she does,” Johnson said, acknowledging Reese’s time in the WNBA. “I’m on social media, clownin’ the people who are talkin’ down on her. I’m just proud of her. It was a lot of media and locker room stuff [that ended the friendship]. Stuff that goes on behind the scenes. It happens.”

Neither player has spoken about the reasons for their estrangement, but it may have stemmed from a war of words between their mothers. In May 2024, Kia Brooks claimed that Reese’s GPA at LSU had been less than 2.0, sparking a media storm.

Angel Webb Reese, mother of the Chicago Sky star, responded by pointing out the grammatical errors Brooks had made in his message, worsening the situation and possibly permanently damaging the friendship between the two players.
