Washington Mystics rookie standout Sonia Citron shared a wild story about being mistaken for fellow WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark during her college tenure at Notre Dame.

The No. 3 pick of the 2025 WNBA Draft and first-time All-Star is averaging 13.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game over 23 contests. Yes, Sonia Citron has already lived up to the hype, as Caitlin Clark did in her rookie season.

Citron recently sat down with Monumental Sports Network, where she answered eight compelling questions. The third question was, “What is the weirdest place you’ve been recognized as a basketball player?”

There, Citron recounted the time where a fan approached her at a restaurant and asked if she was none other than Caitlin Clark.

“I was at a restaurant with my two friends from Notre Dame in South Bend. And this guy came up to me, and he was like super excited. He was like, ‘Oh my goodness? Are you Caitlin Clark?!’ He asked me if I could get a signature, a picture. And I was like, ‘I’m just not, it’s not me, you know.”

Was this fan out of his mind, or was it an understandable mistake? Here’s a photo of Clark and Citron standing side by side at last week’s All-Star Game, so you be the judge:

For what it’s worth, Citron is listed at 6-foot-1, and Clark is 6 feet tall. So, keep that in mind if you ever spot either star in person and can’t tell which is which.

Sonia Citron was on Team Clark in the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, recording 11 points, two rebounds and a pair of assists in the 151-131 loss to Team Collier. Clark was unable to play that game as she continues to nurse a nagging groin injury.

Clark’s Fever and Citron’s Mystics have split the first two regular-season meetings (Washington won on May 28, Indiana was victorious on June 3) of 2025. The two clubs will square off again in Indiana on Aug. 15 (7:30 p.m. EST) and one more time on Sept. 7.

The Fever and Mystics hold the last two playoff spots right now, so there’s a good chance that their last two meeting will greatly impact the postseason picture.

WNBA star Brittney Griner was at the center of a new debate over what she allegedly said in a game against basketball phenom Caitlin Clark.

The Atlanta Dream center found herself at the center of social media controversy last month when some fans thought she disparaged Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark upon fouling out.

The game’s broadcast focused on an upset Griner saying something as she returned to the Dream bench after fouling out of the game. While there’s no audio of this moment, some who tried to read Griner’s lips thought she called Clark a “trash f–king white girl.”

However, there’s no proof of Griner saying those actual words since others thought she stated something else.

It took weeks for someone to finally get a quote from her, and she provided much of nothing.

Brittney Griner was asked about this moment before her team’s June 15 game against the Washington Mystics and said, “I remember fouling out, being mad. I remember fouling out on, I believe it was [Natasha] Howard driving to the basket. They said I put my hand in.”

Moments before the conclusion of the Indiana Fever’s 81-76 victory over the Dream at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta weeks ago, cameras seemingly caught Atlanta Dream star center Brittney Griner labeling Caitlin Clark “trash” before calling her a “f***ing white girl” in frustration over a foul on Natasha Howard.

The clip of Griner speaking on the bench, lacking context, spread on social media and went viral.

Griner, who won a gold medal for Team USA at the Summer Olympics in Paris in 2024, essentially got away with whatever came out of her mouth because the league basically ignored the controversy.

This incident is not the only time Griner vocalized her frustrations this season. Following another game, she stormed off mid-interview, yelling at the referees to “be f—ing better.
