Game shows can get predictable after a while. That’s why Wheel of Fortune fans were happily shocked by a contestant’s bold gamble. Keep reading to find out all the details on the gameplay on a recent episode of the beloved game show.

Wheel Of Fortune Fans Shocked By Contestant’s Bold Gamble

Unlike Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune is mostly a game of chance, not how many trivia facts you know. Sometimes even the easiest puzzles stump contestants on Wheel. Millions of people watch the popular game show every night. It can sometimes get repetitive with the contestants using the same tactics to gain an advantage.

But a recent bold move by one of the contestants took viewers by surprise. Logan McDevitt, an engineer from Los Angeles, California, competed on the Wheel of Fortune on April 2. The engineer built an early lead. He used a bold move to gain an advantage over his competitors.

Logan McDevitt used the Wild Card advantage, which allowed him to call an extra consonant later in the puzzle. He called for an “R,” but there was only one on the board. Another contestant who was at the taping said they were shocked by the move. If Logan McDevitt had called for a “W,” he would have gotten three letters.

Despite his misstep, Logan McDevitt rallied and took home $63,982, including his Bonus Round win. It all worked out for him in the end.

Is Wheel Game Show Format Outdated?

Wheel of Fortune has been keeping fans guessing for over 50 years. Ryan Seacrest took over as host after Pat Sajak retired. The show has a tried-and-true format, but some viewers think the format is outdated. Fans of the game show took to Reddit to discuss what’s wrong with the format and how to fix it.

“There’s just no risk involved in the game any more. The only time it’s honestly worth watching after the Prize Puzzle round is to see if the $5k gets hit for the final spin, because that’s the only way to keep things competitive.”
“They could easily shorten the contestent interviews.”
“Is the format broken? Yes. I feel like moving the Prize Puzzle to round 1 so there’s always the “underdog” narrative is the simplest fix at this point
“In addition to increasing the top dollar values, how about some four digit values smaller than the top dollar value?”
“There is so much that I don’t know where to begin. For one, there’s many annoying/unlikeable contestants, the game is decided in the Prize Puzzle round”

One of the most common complaints wasn’t about the format itself, but about the contestant pool. As you can see, several viewers mentioned a lack of impressive or personable contestants. Tell us in the comments what changes you would make to update the Wheel of Fortune format.
