When the Pittsburgh Steelers called Will Howard’s name on Saturday, it wasn’t just a life-changing moment for the quarterback. It was a moment of pure joy for everyone who has been in his corner, especially his girlfriend, Skyler Skoglund.

Moments after Howard was drafted 185th overall, Skoglund captured the excitement in a simple but powerful way. She posted a photo of Howard celebrating with his former Ohio State teammate Jack Sawyer, marking a new beginning for the two close friends and now, Steelers teammates. In one shot, Skoglund summed up what words sometimes can’t: pride, happiness, and a whole lot of love.

Howard’s journey to the NFL has been anything but easy. He started at Kansas State, transferred to Ohio State, and in just one season, helped lead the Buckeyes to a national title. His numbers spoke for themselves- 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns, and a 73.1 percent completion rate, but it was his grit and leadership that made the biggest impression.

Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith pointed exactly to that after the pick.
“You see him in the big moments of critical possession downs, even in the national championship game, momentum plays to kind of end the game,” Smith said. “Extremely excited to work with Will.”

Howard called reuniting with Sawyer a “dream come true,” telling reporters, “Jack and I are about as close as two guys could be. I always said throughout this process, one of these Ohio State guys, I’m going to end up with one of them. And man, I’m so glad that Captain Jack and I are going to Pittsburgh together.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers added depth to their quarterback room this Saturday, drafting Will Howard out of Ohio State.

Howard started his college career at Kansas State before transferring to Ohio State. In his only season with the Buckeyes, he completed 73.1 percent of his passes for 4,010 yards with 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He helped lead Ryan Day’s program to the national title, making a plethora of clutch throws during the College Football Playoff.

Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith highlighted Howard’s ability to perform well in crunch time as one of his strengths.

After the Steelers selected Howard with the 185th overall pick, his girlfriend had a subtle but sweet reaction to him heading to the Pittsburgh.

The Steelers selected Howard’s college teammate in the fourth round. They’re thrilled about reuniting in the pros.

Howard and Sawyer played pivotal roles on the Buckeyes this past season. Not only were they incredibly productive, they were outstanding leaders.

Will these Ohio State stars lead the Steelers to a Super Bowl title? We’re not sure, but this is a pretty cool story nonetheless.
