Sophie Cunningham captioned her video “I’m gonna cut my leg off real quick” as she explained the painful rehab struggle.

During the offseason, many players work on improving their skills and consider playing in the WBL or European leagues. Players like Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers attended a few football games, while history maker Angel Reese received praise from WNBA stars for her Victoria’s Secret runway debut. Sophie Cunningham is away from most of these glamorous events as she is recovering from her knee injury.

The forward sustained a season-ending injury to her right knee during the second quarter of the game in August, but attended games to show support for her team.

Sophie Cunningham Talks About Knee Injury Rehab

Although the 29-year-old star is making progress from the injury, the process is painful and lengthy. Earlier, the former Mercury player left the cast without a doctor’s permission, as she mentioned that she is impatient; yet, the doctors accepted that the progress was better than expected.

“I just got done with rehab. Knee rehab, that is. I should clarify. It was one of those days that I could have kicked everyone in the face. I don’t know why it was so hard today. Sometimes PFR is so easy. Like, you can breeze right through it. Like you get used to it,” Cunningham said. She captioned her video “I’m gonna cut my leg off real quick.”

“(Like) Oh my gosh, you do 30 reps. Take a break, and you do 15, 15, and 15. So it’s four sets of whatever exercise. And, no joke, today I struggle on every single one. It was rough. I need to go take a two-hour nap. And lay by the pool. But I can’t. I have a huge, busy day today. This is great. Still sitting here because I can’t move, but I did shoot today for the first time!” Sophie added.

While the player is making progress and can’t have as much fun, she is keeping herself entertained through various activities. But she got locked out of the house, and Cunningham made a heartfelt plea to the motor club as her car was also broken down

Sophie Cunningham Talks About Kelsey Mitchell’s Grueling Recovery

It’s not only about Cunningham’s injury; she also talked about teammate Kelsey Mitchell, who suffered from Rhabdomyolysis during Game 5 of the WNBA semifinals. The forward showed love for the guard, who was a key contributor to the Fever’s surge in the playoffs. In one of the episodes of her podcast ‘Show Me Something’, she spoke about KM’s injury.

“She just got a full body cramp…it was bad, she was a little sick, super dehydrated, but really the doctor said you know, like, she played till her wheels came off. Like her body was to a point of exhaustion, where she couldn’t go anymore. She was in a full-body cramp. They rushed her to the hospital. Got some IVs in her, did some blood work. She’s gonna be good, but she is super sore. She is moving, walking slowly… we’re thankful, but it still sucks,” The Fever forward said.

Both Cunningham and Mitchell played important roles in the Indiana Fever’s gameplay in the 2025 season. Both will be free agents in the upcoming season, and although injured, they are expected to return to full fitness before the start of the next season, allowing franchises to make a bid for them.
