Sophie is not a fan of the Winter Games.
Sophie Cunningham has delivered a take that’s sure to attract lots of criticism.
Cunningham, whose first season with the Indiana Fever ended prematurely due to injury, is one of the WNBA’s more outspoken players. She also earned a reputation as the Fever’s enforcer last season, thanks to her very aggressive defense of teammate Caitlin Clark.
It doesn’t appear that the 29-year-old is a fan of the ongoing Winter Olympic Games. Speaking on a recent episode of her ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, she questioned the validity of certain sports.
“I don’t understand the curling. I don’t understand. What makes something first, a sport, and not a hobby? And second, who qualifies it as an Olympic Sport?” she asked. “And I’m not discrediting these athletes because I know I couldn’t do what they’re doing. But I just like, I watch some of these things, and I’m like, okay, how or like why?”

While she made it clear she wasn’t downplaying the abilities of certain athletes, Cunningham’s comments aren’t expected to go down well. Moreover, the fact that the accusations against Canada have attracted global attention suggests that she’s wrong to question why curling is a sport.
Meanwhile, Cunningham will be a free agent this year. The WNBA is looking to come to terms on a new CBA at the moment. It’s why there’s no activity on the market yet.
There is some intrigue over her future. However, the former Missouri star has suggested that she would like to stay with the Fever.
“We missed her [Clark] out on the court this year, but depending on the CBA and what’s going on hopefully we’re all together again,” she said.
Cunningham averaged 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game before tearing her MCL last season.
