Dancing With the Stars fans were sure they were going to get a glimpse of actor Zac Efron in the audience on dedication night, but after he wasn’t seen on camera, many started to question where he was as his brother Dylan topped the leaderboard for the first time.

Dylan has been competing on Season 34 of the ABC show, but his older brother hasn’t been seen during any tapings of his performances.

However, it had been reported he would be there when Dylan danced a contemporary routine dedicated to their little sister–which was also set to Zac’s song with Zendaya from The Greatest Showman, Rewrite the Stars.

After the dance came and went–but the High School Musical alum was nowhere to be seen, many fans quickly expressed disappointment.

Taking to Reddit, some also began to question why he hasn’t been there at all.

“Why hasn’t Zac Efron come to support his brother?” one person asked. “Does he think he is too big of a star? Why have we not seen him in the audience to support DYaln? They seem like they are close so I find it odd he hasn’t made an effort to come support him, especially when Dylan danced with their little sister.”

However, many quickly pointed out that Zac is still a working actor, and that Dylan himself had said his brother was traveling, with many saying it was likely work related.

“Dylan said in one of the press interviews today that Zac is currently traveling (I’m assuming work-related),” one person wrote.

“I think Zac’s in the middle of filming a movie right now. Production schedule might not allow him time away to see him at the show,” another said.

Others pointed out that because Zac was an A-list celebrity, he likely wasn’t going to show up in the audience so as not to take attention away from his brother.

“I assume it’s because Zac is an A-list, beloved, celebrity. Especially amongst women, the target audience of dwts. I mean try to find a woman between the ages of 18-40 who doesn’t know who Zac is,” one person wrote. “If Zac is in the ballroom, then all the attention is now on the fact that Zac Efron is in the ballroom. Instead of the attention being on his brother. I’d imagine that might play a role in it. Not wanting to take attention away from him.”

“I feel like Zac showing up might take some o the attention away from Dylan himself,” another agreed. “And Zac is probably aware of that. Dylan is trying to establish himself as a celebrity or simply as a person in his own right, without being linked as solely Zac Efron’s brother. A Zac appearance would overshadow Dylan’s dance that week, but I do have a feeling he might make an appearance if Dylan makes the finals.”

Others also agreed with the idea that Zac could show up if Dylan made it to the finale, which is set to air on November 25.

“My guess is, he’ll be there if Dylan makes it to the finale,” one person said.

“I think, if he comes, it’s on the finale if Dylan makes it,” a second added.

Regardless of his brother’s attendance or not, dedication night proved to be Dylan’s best dance yet and firmly established him as a contender for the Mirrorball trophy, as he earned the best score of the night with 36 out of 40 judges’ points.
