Tony Romo and Jim Nantz’s futures might have been decided.
Jim Nantz and Tony Romo used to be one of the best broadcasting partners in the NFL world. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback was a breath of fresh air when he first joined CBS Sports, but things have changed over time.
The 2025 NFL season hasn’t been the best for the duo, with fans calling for them to be demoted. Romo’s regression has left some flabbergasted, and people think it is time for a change for the former Cowboys star. Even Dave Portnoy accused Romo of being on drugs during the Bills-Jaguars game on Sunday.
While some insist that Ian Eagle and J.J. Watt should replace Romo and Nantz, media personality Chris Russo doesn’t think it’ll happen.

During a recent episode of “Mad Dog Unleashed,” Russo rejected the notion that CBS would demote a guy they are paying $17 million to and one of the most iconic announcers in American professional sports.
“I don’t want to go crazy because I told you years ago, he was awful, and now everybody agrees. He is an absolutely horrendous broadcaster and he is stealing money,” Russo said. “He’s making $17 million through 2030, they can’t get rid of him. And the idea that the internet, the 23 years olds who read Awful Announcing think, ‘Why don’t they move Ian and J.J. Watt into that slot and move Nantz and Romo down.’ Are you crazy?
“They’re going to move Nantz off the No. 1 spot and put him down to No. 2? They’re never doing that. I don’t even think they’re moving Romo off and putting J.J. Watt. First off, J.J. Watt’s done about 10 games and none of us has ever seen J.J. Watt do a big game. Never! Nobody has ever seen or heard J.J. Watt with the whole world watching, with a drama filled game, with 50 million paying attention in the middle of January in a playoff spot with a lot of happenings.”

Romo and Nantz gave Matt Ryan a heartfelt goodbye, as he returned to the Atlanta Falcons on a new role. It doesn’t look like fans will be that sad to see Romo leaving.
