Fans on social media had a hard time believing that Angel Reese was the Sportswoman of the Year following BET’s decision to name the Chicago Sky forward thusly.

Reese is indeed the 2025 BET Sportswoman of the Year, making her a three-time consecutive winner. She is only the second woman to win the award three times, behind Serena Williams, with the network recognizing her for her impact both on and off the court, as well as her status as a cultural icon.

Fans don’t see it that way, however.

“How is she’s winning awards for being a**,” one asked.

“for quite literally being inefficient and bad at the sport? How? asked another.

“Nobody takes this award seriously anymore after this, declared a third.

“For what getting the most rebounds off of her own missed layups…..this has to be the biggest joke i’ve seen or heard in years, said a fourth.

“No reason at all why she should have won this lol. Have yall been watching her hoop? Lmao,” someone else laughed.

“They gave Angel Reese a pity award😭,” an account noted.

Angel Reese Is Scoring Less So Far This Season

Angel Reese had a solid rookie season in 2024. She averaged 12.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game for the Sky. Her scoring has dropped this year, but she continues to dominate the glass, as she averages 10.0 points and 14.0 rebounds per contest.

While she’s a force in the paint, many have continued to point out that a lot of her rebounds come off her own misses.

She recently hit a milestone many consider awkward: officially recording more rebounds than points. As of Sunday, Reese had 532 career rebounds and 526 total points to her name.
