Titus Welliver’s 100% RT Show Gets An Exciting Season 2 Filming Update

Titus Welliver’s Bosch Universe Isn’t Done Yet — And Neither Is He.

Titus Welliver, the face of the relentless detective Harry Bosch, may have stepped back from center stage—but his legacy is far from over. His latest venture, Ballard, a gritty spin-off set in the same noir-soaked Los Angeles, has taken critics by storm with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. And now, there’s more good news: Season 2 could begin filming as soon as this fall.

Rooted in Michael Connelly’s bestselling novels, Bosch has long been hailed as one of Prime Video’s most compelling crime sagas. A huge part of that success stems from Welliver’s magnetic performance—his portrayal of Bosch as a man forged by justice, haunted by trauma, and driven by an unwavering moral compass became iconic over nine seasons.

But Welliver was no stranger to tough roles even before Bosch, with standout performances in CSISons of Anarchy, and D3adwood that made him a natural fit for the genre. And while Bosch: Legacy marked the end of his role as the lead, Ballard proves there’s still more story to tell—and Bosch still has a vital part to play.

This time, the spotlight shifts to LAPD detective Renée Ballard, played by Maggie Q. In Ballard Season 1, Bosch acts as her trusted ally, helping to expose a chilling police conspiracy. The chemistry between Welliver and Maggie Q gives the series a fresh spark, blending old-school grit with a new generation of justice.

Although Prime Video hasn’t officially renewed the show yet, the odds are clearly in Ballard’s favor. A flawless critic score, surging fan support, and its climb to the platform’s #1 spot suggest that a second season is all but inevitable.

And Maggie Q herself just offered a tantalizing tease:

“We have a writers’ room, and they’ve been writing away,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “The arc for the second season is very exciting… If we get a season two of Ballard, I think we’ll be back in the fall to shoot.”

Cautious optimism may be wise—especially in a streaming era where even great shows aren’t guaranteed survival—but Maggie Q’s comments confirm that the creative team is already deep in planning. With a compelling new arc on the horizon and Bosch still walking the shadowy streets of L.A., Ballard Season 2 could arrive sooner than fans ever expected.

And if it does? It might just cement Ballard as the next crown jewel in Prime Video’s detective universe.

Ballard going under police tape

One of the biggest challenges facing streaming-era shows is the long gap between seasons—often 18 months to 2 years. That kind of delay can k!ll momentum, especially in an age of shortened attention spans where even great shows risk being forgotten.

For a breakout like Ballard, that’s a risk it can’t afford. As a new series trying to build its audience, Ballard needs consistent, yearly releases to keep the buzz alive. Season 1 ended on a jaw-dropping cliffhanger, and fans are desperate for answers. A long hiatus would only dampen the excitement.

That’s why the recent filming update is such a thrill. If production kicks off this fall, as hinted, it means Season 2 could arrive much sooner than expected—delivering long-awaited answers while the mystery and tension are still fresh in viewers’ minds.
