BREAKING: CBS Announces Final Decision On Tony Romo After Week 1
Tony Romo’s remains uncertain.
CBS just told the booth story without saying Romo’s name on the graphic. Richard Deitsch posted the Week 2 and Week 3 announce slate on Monday. J.J. Watt remains on the No. 1 team with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson. Tony Romo is not listed.
Week 2 is Patriots at Steelers. Week 3 is Cowboys at Ravens. That Dallas game looked like a natural landing spot. It is not.

Watt already handled Week 1. He called Packers-Vikings in Romo’s chair.

CBS put him on leave “until further notice” after a July 23 arrest in Milwaukee. Deputies cited him for operating while intoxicated, an open container, and unsafe passing.
The network named Watt the fill-in within days. David Berson later said there was “no timetable or final decision.” That line is now two weeks old. The new schedule is a decision in practice.
Romo has a court date of Sept. 21. That falls after Week 2. It does not put him back on the headset for Week 3 either.
He still has years left on a massive CBS deal. Reports put more than $70 million remaining. A morals clause fight is the rumor. Nothing public has ended the contract.
The August lineup drop already left him off the chart. This slate just extended that blank.
Tony Romo’s Old Chair Is Watt’s For Now

Watt moved up from the No. 2 team. Ian Eagle now works with Ross Tucker. That shuffle holds through at least Week 3.
Cowboys-Ravens in Week 3 would have been a full-circle return. Romo spent his playing career in Dallas. However, CBS is not using that hook.
Deitsch’s post also showed other CBS pairings. Luke Kuechly appears on a later assignment after his Netflix work in Australia. That is a separate lane. The No. 1 seat is still Watt.
Berson said the network had to consider brand impact. Until CBS prints his name next to Nantz again, the leave is the job.
