The New York Giants’ front office probably hoped the 2025 NFL Draft weekend would be about celebrating their future. Instead, general manager Joe Schoen’s family is drawing headlines with uncomfortable attention. What started with some harmless draft buzz has snowballed into accusations and outrage on social media.
On Thursday night, the Giants traded up to the No. 25 spot to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. Hours before the pick, Schoen’s son reposted Dart’s highlights on Instagram, leading many to believe the family may have tipped their hand.
ESPN’s Peter Schrager later revealed a family tie, noting that Schoen’s daughter, Sydney, currently attends Ole Miss. “Schoen has been around Ole Miss football for two years,” Schrager said during the broadcast. “This one is something that they’ve always had in their back pocket; a guy they have always liked.”
Backlash Grows After Prank Call Incident

On Friday night, two Ole Miss students prank-called Shedeur Sanders, who was later drafted by the Browns, escalating the situation. Sanders said the call came through a number not publicly tied to him, raising obvious questions. Shortly after, NFL fans noticed that Sydney Schoen had liked an Instagram comment accusing her of leaking Sanders’ number.

Although there is no proof that Schoen’s daughter actually distributed the number, the optics alone sparked outrage.
“If she really did leak his number and it was given to her by her father, that has to be some kind of serious NFL violation,” one fan posted.
Another wrote, “Whether she did it or not — liking these comments to troll is a bad look in and of itself.”
Despite the noise, Sanders handled the situation with remarkable poise. Speaking to Cleveland reporters during a conference call Saturday, he said, “It really didn’t have any impact on me. I don’t feed into negativity or that stuff. It is what it is. Of course, I felt it was a childish act, but everyone does childish things here and there.” Sanders’ calm reaction earned him widespread praise across social media.
Meanwhile, Sydney Schoen’s social media accounts have been under siege from frustrated fans. Whether the NFL or the Giants will pursue this any further remains unclear. For now, the weekend that was supposed to focus on football dreams has become an uncomfortable family nightmare for the Giants’ front office
