The legal complaint was filed in the Washtenaw County Circuit Court by Paige Shiver and her attorney. She is arguing that the school violated the state’s Freedom of Information Act by denying multiple public records requests. These requests sought access to investigative files, text messages, and internal communications between university officials and Moore.
According to the filed documents, the university allegedly paid outside law firm Jenner & Block a staggering $12 million to investigate the scandal. Shiver’s legal team asserts that the public institution is now arbitrarily hiding the concrete findings of that expensive probe.

Beyond the public records dispute, Paige Shiver has raised serious allegations regarding her treatment at the university. The lawsuit alleges that she was subjected to sex discrimination and a hostile work environment. Furthermore, the complaint alleges that unidentified staff members improperly accessed her private medical records during the height of the scandal.
The original controversy unfolded dramatically last December when the school terminated Moore after his relationship with Shiver came to light. Following his firing, the former coach allegedly confronted her at her home, which led to misdemeanor criminal charges. Moore later entered a plea of no contest and was sentenced to an 18-month probationary period.
