Karoline Leavitt

CNN paused its coverage of the latest update in the Nancy Guthrie case to share Karoline Leavitt’s statement on the situation.

On Monday, February 10, CNN shared a breaking news alert as the FBI released new surveillance photos and videos of a subject in the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie. The new evidence, obtained from a Nest camera at Nancy’s home, shows a person who appears to be wearing a mask and carrying a backpack or tools.

CNN was discussing the new photos and videos with reporter Jack Tapper, who was speaking from Nancy’s home in the Catalina Foothills community, located just north-east of Tucson, Arizona, when they paused everything to bring viewers the 28-year-old White House Press Secretary. Leavitt told the press at a briefing that she and President Donald Trump have reviewed the footage and are sending their prayers. It comes after Savannah posted the images on Instagram and told her fans, “We need your help.”

It comes after Savannah issued a haunting prediction as the FBI released bone-chilling video of the suspect.

At the White House press briefing, Leavitt said, “I apologize for the delay. I was once again with the president. He and I were both reviewing the newly released surveillance footage from the FBI in the Savannah Guthrie case, just this heartbreaking situation with respect to her mother.

“The president encourages any American across the country with any knowledge of the suspect to please call the FBI, who continue to assist state and local authorities who are leading this invest on the ground.

“Once again, I will reiterate that the prayers of this entire White House are with Savannah and her family at this time and we hope this person is found soon and that her mother is brought home safely.”

The person in the surveillance videos is considered a “subject” in the investigation, NBC said, and the FBI hopes that the public can help gather more information about this individual as the case to find the mother of the Today Show host, 54, heats up.

Before CNN knew the update was an image, Jake Tapper said it could be the “first glimmer of hope.” CNN’s Dana Bash called the update a “big break” in the search for Nancy, who has been missing since February 1. Tapper added that the FBI told him these are just the first photos they’ll release and said, “This could be a break in the case.”

The pictures of the subject were released on FBI Director Kash Patel’s X account. He wrote, “Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors – including the removal of recording devices.

“The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems. Working with our partners – as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance. Anyone with information, please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit http://tips.fbi.gov.”

Minutes after law enforcement released the new videos taken from the front porch of Nancy’s home, Savannah reposted them on her Instagram account with a message from her family. “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home,” the caption said. She later added in an additional post, “Someone out there recognizes this person.”

A $50,000 reward has been offered ‘for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance,” the FBI shared this afternoon as a reminder following the update.
