Will Trent Season 2 Finale: Erika Christensen Opens Up About Angie’s Sonogram Shock and What’s Next
In the emotional final moments of Will Trent Season 2, viewers were stunned when Angie Polaski came face-to-face with a life-changing revelation — a sonogram that suggests an unexpected pregnancy. But what does this moment really mean for Angie, and where might it lead her character in Season 3?
TVLine caught up with actress Erika Christensen, who plays Angie, to break down that powerful scene and its deeper implications.
“It was such a quiet, still moment on screen — but for Angie, it was enormous,” Christensen shared. “She’s not someone who lets herself feel vulnerable easily, so just the fact that she even went in for the ultrasound is already huge growth.”
The scene, which comes near the end of the episode, is laced with unspoken tension. Angie stares at the screen, visibly shaken, as the sonographer points out the fetal heartbeat. It’s a haunting, intimate beat in a series better known for its high-stakes investigations.
According to Christensen, Angie’s reaction isn’t just about fear — it’s about rediscovering agency after years of trauma.
“What I love about Angie is that she’s constantly reclaiming pieces of herself,” the actress explained. “This pregnancy — whether she chooses to carry it or not — forces her to face what she wants, not just what she’s survived.”
Throughout Season 2, Will Trent has slowly peeled back layers of Angie’s character. Her history with addiction, abuse, and strained relationships has shaped her guarded personality — but it’s also made her moments of vulnerability hit harder.
Christensen revealed that showrunners were deliberate in how they built toward this cliffhanger.
“It’s not about shock value,” she emphasized. “It’s about emotional honesty. The writers have been so respectful of Angie’s arc — they’re letting her be messy and human.”
As for what comes next in Season 3? Christensen says she doesn’t know exactly where Angie’s journey will go, but she hopes the character continues to grow through tough choices.
“There’s so much power in letting a woman choose — not just about pregnancy, but about who she wants to be,” she said.
Fans will have to wait for ABC’s official renewal and announcements for Season 3, but one thing is certain: Angie’s story is far from over.
If Will Trent star Erika Christensen‘s reaction is any indication, Tuesday’s Season 3 finale could just as easily represent the end as it could a new beginning for Will and Angie.
After thwarting an attack by Founders Front, Will joined Angie for her first sonogram — a bittersweet moment between exes that culminated in their acknowledgment that, yes, this was a little bit weird.
“I’ve thought about this moment,” Angie said, listening to her baby’s heartbeat. “Just us, sitting here.” But neither she nor Will ever anticipated that she would be welcoming a child into the world with another man. She thanked Will for being there, put her head on his shoulder, then baby daddy Seth (played by recurring guest star Scott Foley) arrived to “relieve” him.
When TVLine caught up with Christensen at the Disney Upfront in New York City Tuesday, she was still attempting to make sense of the scene, which she referred to as a “loaded” moment for the series’ central (albeit consciously uncoupled) duo.
“They both made that choice [to be there],” she said. “She allowed him to be there, she wanted him to be there, and he wanted to be there for her. They both felt like this was the right thing to do in the moment, and then it feels— It is so loaded. Honestly, I don’t know if it’s the ultimate kind of closure, the ultimate acknowledgment of what could have been, or if it’s leading us towards something else.”
But whatever the future holds, Christensen believes — or, at the very least, hopes — that Will will play a central role in Angie’s child’s life. She also thinks that Angie will “really step up and be her best self” for her future son or daughter in Season 4.
“That is an entirely new part of her that she has never explored [and] that we have never seen,” she pointed out. “I also think having her mom gone is really interesting because however much she was subconsciously living for her mom, or trying to please this person who wasn’t even in her life, [DeeDee is] now definitively gone, so she can take a fresh look at what’s important to her.”
