Alijah Arenas is back on his feet and has returned home from hospital after a horrific car crash that nearly cost him his life.

The 18-year-old basketball star, the son of former NBA guard Gilbert Arenas, was involved in a collision last week and needed to be put into an induced coma as a result. The USC commit was leaving a workout in the San Fernando Valley around 4:55 a.m. on April 24, when he appeared to lose control of his Tesla Cybertruck.

He ran into a fire hydrant and then a tree, with the vehicle bursting into flames almost immediately.

Arenas was saved by the heroic actions of some brave folks who pulled him out of the car.

The crash was captured by a nearby surveillance camera, which shows how quickly the Cybertruck caught fire.

Alijah Arenas Did Not Sustain Any Major injuries

Alijah Arenas isn’t back to 100 percent just yet, but is well on his way.

According to the authorities, neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected to have played a role in the crash, though high speed is believed to have played a part.

Arenas was placed in an induced coma due to smoke inhalation and spent several days at the hospital before returning home. Thankfully, he did not suffer any serious injuries.

His father discussed his status on Thursday night, sharing that he was doing well. The older Arenas also thanked the first responders who removed his son from the burning car, telling them Alijah is excited to meet them.

“Truly grateful to everyone for the prayers, love, and support during his healing. Much love,” he said.
