LeBron James clearly knows a thing or two about the work needed to stay in the NBA. After all, he’s now entering his record-breaking 23rd year in the league. A good chunk of current players weren’t even born when James first entered the NBA in 2003. That’s how long he’s been playing at a high level.

James, who is expected to miss three to four weeks due to a sciatica injury, hasn’t halted his grind off the court despite being 40 years old. He still loves the game as much as he did when he was younger. That’s why, in a recent clip circulating on social media, he lamented and criticized players who prioritize fame over the love of the game.

“Everybody want the glitz and glamour. Everybody don’t wanna f****** work, strap their boots up and put on that hard hat and actually commit,” LeBron reiterated on his appearance in Swish Cultures. “You’re more in love with the finish line than the process,” he added.

There’s some truth to what LeBron James is saying here. A significant number of NBA players are primarily motivated by the paycheck and fame at the NBA level. Once they reach both of those, some of them become lazy with the process. That’s what separates the great ones from the mediocre ones. And in LBJ’s perspective, everybody can become great if the effort exceeds known limitations.

Growing Concerns About LeBron James’ Injury

As hard as it is to believe, this will be the first time that LBJ will ever miss a season opener in his career. For the past 22 years, he’s been mostly featured as a must-watch in October, regardless of what jersey he’s wearing. As a result, some league insiders have already voiced their concerns about LeBron’s injury and its severity.

For basketball fans around the world, seeing LeBron James play is part of their yearly ritual when tuning in to NBA games. They grew up watching and idolizing the four-time champ. As for the Lakers, they are cautious about LeBron’s recovery. They don’t want to rush him, especially with Luka Doncic ready to take on the reins as the team’s new superstar.
