Initially, Tony Romo was firmly cemented as the network’s No. 1 game analyst, a high-profile role he had held since retiring from the NFL in 2017. However, the dynamic shifted when Romo was arrested in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
As a result of the legal trouble, CBS Sports executives immediately placed Romo on an indefinite leave of absence “until further notice.” CBS decided to elevate Watt to the top crew to give their NFL coverage immediate stability.
