Terry Bradshaw may have spent his career passing defenders and cracking jokes on national TV, but these days, the former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback is facing a battle much tougher than any game-day challenge. At 76, the four-time Super Bowl champion has been open about his health issues, including his past cancer battles and the toll they’ve taken on his day-to-day life.
This week, rumors briefly painted Bradshaw as a hero aboard a flight into Pittsburgh. Passengers said he helped open a jammed plane door, earning admiration and disbelief in equal measure.
“Thanks to the strength of one of our passengers, we were finally able to get the door open,” one passenger recalled the pilot saying, with many assuming Bradshaw was the man behind the effort. But Bradshaw shut that story down quickly on Instagram: “Just to set the record straight, I did nothing to open the door on the plane! The maintenance crew had it open in 15 [minutes].”

Even though Bradshaw cleared the air, the moment stirred a deeper conversation among NFL fans- one about his health and future. Many fans have grown concerned watching the Hall of Famer continue his television work while not moving how he used to. Bradshaw has spoken candidly about his struggles, saying, “I can’t run. I can’t play with my grandkids the way I used to. And I don’t like that.”
Still, Bradshaw refuses to slow down. He says he plans to keep working on Fox NFL Sunday until he turns 80. “I’ve got grandkids, I don’t wanna have pneumococcal pneumonia knock me down,” he recently shared. “I’ve got a bucket list I want to fill up, I got horses I want to raise.”
Fans have mixed feelings. Some think it’s time for him to retire, while others admire his passion.
“Let the guy continue getting up for work everyday if that’s what he wants to do,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “He has had a hell of a life though.”
One more chimed in, “I don’t mean any disrespect when I say he should of retired from Fox 5 years ago.”
Terry Bradshaw plans to return for the 2025 NFL season, joining the Fox Sports crew once again, except longtime colleague Jimmy Johnson, who stepped away after Super Bowl 59. Whether he’s on camera or off, Bradshaw’s presence reminds fans of both the joy he’s brought and the strength it takes to keep going.
