Sophie Cunningham is not changing her stance. The Indiana Fever guard appeared on USA Network this week. She addressed the fallout from her recent comments.
Cunningham first spoke out in an ESPN feature. She said she wants to protect young girls from competing against biological men. The remarks sparked strong reactions across the WNBA. She refused to walk them back.
“I said what I said. I think it’s kind of common sense,” Cunningham noted earlier. She added that she does not dislike anyone. “I’m there to love, but I’m also there to love biological women.”

“I think I have a very clear and strong perspective on this,” she said.
Cunningham noted that people will not always agree. She still called for respect and peace in the debate.
“I just hate how The W, the basketball of it all, is just getting overshadowed,” Cunningham explained. “It just makes me sad that all this sort of drama… the basketball is getting overshadowed.”
Her biggest priority remains clear.
“My biggest thing is that love and respect, there is room for absolutely everybody, and we don’t always have to agree, but that respect and love definitely has to be there.”
Sophie Cunningham has built a reputation for speaking directly. She plays a physical role for the Indiana Fever. Off the court, she has taken on media work with USA Network.

Public pressure has not shifted her position. Cunningham said she understands disagreement is normal. She still wants conversations to stay respectful.
She also addressed criticism that she “hates” certain groups.
“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that.’”
Cunningham insisted she extends love while speaking honestly.
“I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
The comments have made her one of the more polarizing players in the league.
