The Pittsburgh Steelers will be hiring just their third head coach since 1992.
A wild rumor is circulating about who the Pittsburgh Steelers want as their next head coach following Mike Tomlin’s departure, as well as one AFC team that could target the 53-year-old.
On Tuesday, Mike Tomlin announced his resignation from the Steelers after a mostly successful 18-year run. But a humiliating 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round was the final sign to Tomlin that it was time to part ways.
And so, the Steelers will now change coaches for the first time since 2007, and only on the second occasion since 1992.
According to X/Twitter user, Tomlin is now the “top target” of the Miami Dolphins” after firing Mike McDaniel. Additionally, Donovan claims Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula is Pittsburgh’s “top target” to replace Tomlin:
Trilly Donovan is the name used by an anonymous insider who has obtained scoops in the past on college basketball stories.
In December, Trilly Donovan also reported that a) the Las Vegas Raiders would fire Pete Carroll and b) the Atlanta Falcons would hire Matt Ryan for a front office role. Carroll was let go, and Ryan was named the Falcons’ new president of football operations.

We’ll find out soon enough if Donovan’s latest rumors here surrounding Tomlin and Shula prove correct. But the bottom line is, Tomlin made the right decision to resign from Pittsburgh.
Many Steelers fans had wanted Tomlin gone for a while. It was made clear with the “Fire Tomlin” chants during an ugly home loss to the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 30.
With the loss to Houston, Pittsburgh’s playoff losing streak extends to seven years. Heading into next season, it’ll also be 10 years since their last playoff win. The Steelers never had a losing season under Tomlin, but it’s clear that a new voice is needed.
If Tomlin wanted to stick around, the Steelers may have had to make the difficult decision to fire a legend. But Tomlin made it easy for all parties. A new opportunity is best for the Super Bowl 43-winning head coach.
