Flau’Jae Johnson’s mom blasts Kara Lawson after Kim Mulkey’s criticism, warning that powerful coaches can ruin careers as LSU star shines amid rising WNBA draft hype.

The WNBA draft is coming up. And with it, a lot of hype surrounding which teams would get the most promising NCAA-level talents is skyrocketing. With the likes of Dallas Wings winning the number one pick, it is evident that they would go for someone like Azzi Fudd or Lauren Betts.

However, apart from them, there is one more name that will probably get all the spotlight in the WNBA draft. And that is none other than Flau’jae Johnson. However, with Johnson looking to elevate her game this season, things have been a bit complicated.

As the LSU star delivered yet another stellar performance, it was her mother who took a shot at Kara Lawson.

Flau’Jae Johnson’s Mother Criticizes Kara Lawson

Johnson delivered yet another top performance for LSU. As the Tigers registered a 93-77 win against Duke, LSU coach Kim Mulkey heaped praises on Johnson for her 18-point performance. And she did not stop there. She also took a dig at the Duke’s coach, Lawson.

I was happy for Flau’jae,” Mulkey said. “She didn’t have a good experience with USA Basketball with Kara this summer, and so she’s had this date circled… I was proud of how she handled herself.”

Soon, a fan pointed out that the Tigers’ guard must learn to respect all the coaches. And such a comment seems to have angered Johnson’s mother, Lakia Brooks.

Brooks said, Don’t judge a kid before you know them. Don’t let someone’s status or NIL earnings dictate their future. Coaches can ruin careers, but expecting kids to just ‘get over’ the hate isn’t fair.”

Surely, things are looking to be heating up at the moment. And with Lawson in the firing line, here’s what actually started the feud.

Flau’Jae Johnson Had A Poor Experience With Kara Lawson

Johnson was one of the members of the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup in Chile, representing the USA. Incidentally, it was the Duke’s coach, Lawson, who was in charge of coaching the team.

Unfortunately, while the squad did win a gold medal, Johnson was often not included in the rotation in crucial games. And this had a severe impact on her confidence. Thus, with things looking a bit complicated between Lawson and Johnson, fans are eager to see how the NCAA star performs in the upcoming games.
