It remains clear that Deshaun Watson is no longer the Cleveland Browns’ long-term solution, but he is still on their roster.

Jimmy Haslam even declared his 2022 acquisition a “big swing and miss.”

It’s unclear if the quarterback will ever play another in-game down of football for the Cleveland Browns, but the team did get an update on his status.

Watson has been sidelined since tearing his Achilles tendon during the 2024 season, and a re-rupture in the offseason extended his recovery timeline indefinitely.

Amid the team navigating a difficult 1-5 start, ESPN and NFL insider Adam Schefter has now cast doubt on any immediate return for Deshaun Watson.

“He’s a good month away from being cleared for any football activity. There hasn’t been a conversation about when or if he’ll play again,” Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show.

After falling to 1-5 on the season in their Week 6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns are looking for answers anywhere they can find them on the offensive side of the ball.

A healthy Deshaun Watson has already shown that he cannot be that person.

Watson has been the Browns’ Week 1 starter each of the last three seasons, but the team has accomplished close to nothing after giving up so much to acquire him and then signing him to a massive deal.

It has caused owner Jimmy Haslam to essentially call him a mistake.

Earlier this year, Deshaun Watson responded with a strong message of his own.

“Everyone’s doubting me. Everyone don’t believe in me,” Watson said. “Everyone don’t think I can get back to where I was. I know I’m going to be way better than before.”
