The Los Angeles Lakers have played four preseason games so far. Star player Luka Doncic made his much-awaited preseason debut in the recent game against the Phoenix Suns. The Slovenian star played for 22 minutes and scored 25 points, four assists, and seven rebounds. Deandre Ayton played for 26 minutes and scored 10 points, one assist, and 13 rebounds.

Austin Reaved also had a major impact on the court. He played for 31 minutes and scored 25 points, along with two assists and four rebounds. Despite this contribution, the Lakers fell short against the Suns’ dominance and lost the game with the final score 104-113.

Doncic also made a highlight during the game with his no-look pass to Ayton. The Lakers’ next and final preseason game is against the Dallas Mavericks at T-Mobile Arena. Before that game, Doncic expressed his feelings about facing the Mavericks.

“I mean, it’s obviously going to be something. Obviously, I’m going to feel something every game I play against them. I am kind of starting a new chapter here… but… it’s always going to be something,” Doncic said in a recent interview (via Dave McMenamin).

The Lakers will play their first regular-season game of the 2025-26 NBA season against the Golden State Warriors on opening night.

Doncic is currently one of the top players in the league. His ability to make difficult shots and his exceptional skills often earn him praise. During a recent interview, his teammate Deandre Ayton praised him highly.

“Luka is different. He’s truly a one dimensional player when comes to that pick and roll. It feel like he got eyes in the back of his head. That was really fun seeing how he starts to do his Luka magic,” Ayton said.

Doncic forged strong connections with the Lakers in just one season. The question arises: Is he the perfect fit to become the Lakers’ next franchise player, especially as LeBron James approaches the end of his career?
