It is generally unusual to see a star basketball player and a former U.S. President’s name coming up together. But Caitlin Clark and Joe Bid:en just got linked in a way that is really unexpected.

Clark, the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, hasn’t played since late July. The Indiana Fever guard suffered a leg injury, teased a couple of possible returns, and then officially closed all possibilities on September 4.

She told fans “I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season. I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling”

The Fever is still in good form, though, getting a playoff spot without her.

The injury update hit hard for fans in Indianapolis. Clark missed All-Star Weekend on her team’s home court. She missed the second half of the regular season. And now, she’ll be watching her teammates from the sidelines.

Caitlin Clark Comparison That Raised Eyebrows

Not everyone focused only on Clark’s absence. Former ESPN personality Jason Whitlock took things in a different direction.

He posted on X that “They’ve turned Caitlin Clark into Joe Bid:en. No press conferences for 2 months. The coverup is always worse than the crime. Her injury has been the weirdest thing I’ve seen in sports.

He pointed out that Clark hadn’t spoken publicly for months and compared the silence to Bid:en once going 64 days without a solo press conference.

That kind of secrecy stirred frustration. The Fever kept hinting at good news, only for fans to find out she wasn’t close to returning. The intentional mystery fed speculation, leaving a lot of questions hanging.

Clark finally broke the silence herself with a heartfelt statement. She admitted disappointment, saying, “This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good. The way the fans continued to show up for me, and for the Fever, brought me so much joy and important perspective. I am so proud of how this team has only gotten stronger through adversity this year.”

Head coach Stephanie White echoed that message, saying the team prioritized “the long-term viewpoint of her health and wellness.”

The silence around her injury sparked plenty of criticism. Many already believe the league hasn’t exactly gone out of its way to support her, something that is quite evident recently.

Still, the Fever moves forward. They earned the No. 3 seed in the playoffs and face Atlanta on Sunday afternoon. Clark will have to cheer them on from the bench, but her shadow will loom over every moment.

Fans wanted highlights. They got mystery. And in the strangest twist of the season, they also got a Bid:en comparison.
