The Golden Bachelor fans were on the edge of their seats as Mel Owens was grilled by Peg Munson’s daughter.
On the Thursday, Oct. 23 episode of the senior dating show, the former NFL star visited the final three contestants’ hometowns to meet their families.
Mel had a bit of a rough start to the introductions, especially with Dakota, the only child of Peg, who fans predicted he would “screw up” with earlier on in the journey.
While visiting the 62-year-old firefighter’s hometown of Las Vegas, he got a chance to sit down with her daughter.
Dakota didn’t waste time as she quickly asked, “How are you feeling about my mom?”

Mel disappointed with his first short answer of “Great.”
She followed, “Okay. Uh why?”
“I’ll tell you why,” the leading man said. “Because I love her spirit.” Dakota asked Mel “what about her spirit” he liked, prompting him to respond, “You know, a lot of energy,” which still wasn’t enough for her.
“Well, it’s alive,” he added.
She got to business with her following question asking if he was in love with her mother and if he had told her yet.
He admitted, “No, I’m not in love with your mom, yet, because I don’t know if I’m at that stage yet. He added, “I don’t think I have to be in love right this second.”
Dakota asked if he thinks he’ll get there by the end of the journey and Mel admitted he doesn’t know.
“But the goal at the end of this is you’re supposed to get down on one knee and propose to somebody,” she pointed out.
“My goal is to find someone,” Mel clarified. “That’s my goal. Whatever that means.”
“Are you actually looking for somebody? Are you actually wanting to have a lifelong partner and build a life together?” Dakota lastly questioned after chuckling from his vague responses.
The daughter was not the only one laughing at his replies. Many fans took to X to praise Dakota for her directness and slam Mel for “giving nothing.
One said, “Go Dakota!!! Love this interrogation by Peg ‘s Daughter – Mel is failing miserably.”
Another added, “Peg’s daughter thinks Mel isn’t s–t and I can’t stop laughing at her laughing at his basic answers.”
“Peg’s kid ain’t letting Mel slide,” a third wrote.
As fans continued to troll the leading man, Mel attempted to reassure her that he was looking for another “partnership” but damage had already been done.
Within a confessional, Dakota admitted, “Mel’s answers are not necessarily what I needed to hear for where they’re at in this process, nor do I think that that’s what my mom deserves, I wish he was more sure of where his feelings are with my mom. That worries me. Yeah, I’m a little skeptical.”
At the end of the episode, Peg did receive one of Mel’s final roses as well as Cindy Cullers.
