A new report details the fractured relationship between Dallas Cowboys players and Micah Parsons, culminating in his trade to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday.
27 days after Micah Parsons requested to be dealt by the Cowboys, he was traded to the Packers in exchange for star defensive tackle Kenny Clark and a pair of first-round draft picks.
Parsons then agreed to a lucrative four-year contract extension worth $188 million, including $136 million guaranteed. The deal makes the four-time Pro Bowler the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Parsons was becoming a problem in the Cowboys’ locker room before the trade. Breer compared Parsons’ contract negotiations to those of Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Zack Martin, adding that defensive coaches had problems with Parsons’ work ethic:
“That said, there is a difference between this negotiation and the previous three. Martin, Lamb and Prescott are/were very popular in the locker room. That’s not the case with Parsons, who has rankled teammates in different ways, seen by some as egotistical and self-centered. His podcast has created issues, too, that go all the way up to quarterback Dak Prescott.
Some of it spilled into Parsons’s play. Previous defensive staffs had trouble with him at times because he would play out of structure in an effort to make big plays, which led to the run-defense issues Jerry and Stephen Jones kept referencing at their press conference.”
In four seasons with the Cowboys, Parsons recorded 52.5 sacks and nine forced fumbles.

Parsons won’t have to wait long for revenge, as the Packers will visit the Cowboys in Week 4 (Sept. 28) on “Sunday Night Football.” The Packers’ historic rivalry with Dallas makes the trade even more enticing.
The Packers are coming off an 11-6 season that ended with an ugly loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round. They haven’t been to a Super Bowl since winning it all in the 2010 season, so we’ll soon find out if Parsons can be the final piece
