Lexie Hull delivered a career-high 23 points against the Minnesota Lynx, earning coach Stephanie White’s praise for her aggressive scoring as the Indiana Fever battles through injuries.
The Indiana Fever had a spirited performance, but that was not enough for the team to register a win. Plagued with injuries, the Fever were without Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson, and Aari McDonald. However, with legends like Sheryl Swoopes dropping a reality check for the team, the Fever has looked quite strong in its approach. Take their latest game, for example. And following a strong showing from Lexie Hull on the night, the Fever star earned Stephanie White’s praises.
Minnesota might be the frontrunners for the WNBA title this year. But the duo of Hull and Mitchell ensured that it wasn’t smooth sailing for the Lynx. At one point, the Fever were leading the charges with 12 points upfront in the second quarter. And a lot of the credit goes to Hull for the same.
Stephanie White Impressed By ‘Aggressive’ Play From Lexie Hull
White is usually accustomed to bearing grim news about Clark and others’ injuries. But this time around, the Fever head coach found a reason to smile. Despite the defeat, the team’s resilience made White call out Hull and applaud her for her antics. Speaking with the reporters in the postgame presser, White stated that Hull was pretty much aggressive in her approach.
“She was aggressive. She was hunting shots, she was aggressive to the rim. You know, she knew we needed another scorer on the floor and because of the attention that Kelsey and AB [Aliyah Boston] get, she was getting free and she was hunting shots,” said White.
She further went on to say that Hull knew that the team needed an offensive scorer. And while she was able to fit into the role last night, the Fever head coach stressed that the veteran guard will have to continue doing so in the coming days. Coming to Hull’s performance, she had a career-high night. Knocking down 23 points, the 25-year-old eclipsed her previous best of 22 points against the Seattle Storm last August. And while White’s words must have boosted the 25-year-old’s morale, this was not the first time Hull had been praised by White.
Lexie Hull Wins HC’s Praise After Promising Showing Against Sky
The 2021 NCAA champion has been a pivotal part of the Indiana Fever locker room. Following the injury woes of the team, Hull was awarded a starting position when they faced the Chicago Sky in mid-August. And the 25-year-old was quick to grab the opportunity with both hands. While the Fever won the game convincingly by a scoreline of 92-70, Hull also made merry on the field. And Lexie Hull’s impressive display immediately caught the attention of Stephanie White, who was all praises for the Fever star.“It was nice to see the ball go through the net for her and for her to play with such confidence. I mean, you know, for us, we believe that every time she shoots it, it’s going to go in. But for her to finally feel that and see that and play with so much confidence, it’s big for us. We need her,” White said in a post-game interview.
Hull scored what was then her season-high score of 17 points. She also dropped three steals, which made her total steals tally reach the magic figure of 100. Surely, with such regular game-defining performances, Hull is making a strong case for her. And if the Fever wants a strong playoff push, the 25-year-old will definitely need to keep up with the good work.
