As the countdown to new episodes of NCIS and prequel series NCIS: Origins continues, CBS revealed exciting news about the intertwined shows.
“Hi, I’m Wilmer Valderrama from NCIS coming to you from present day,” Valderrama, who plays Special Agent Nick Torres on the flagship series, said in a joint video announcement from the network on Thursday, September 4.
His Origins counterpart then chimed in, saying, “I’m Austin Stowell from NCIS: Origins coming to you from the ‘90s.”
The duo then teased that coming later this fall there will be an “NCIS crossover event like no other.” Stowell, who plays a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, teased, “The goal, to resolve a case that spans decades.”
“What the hell is that thing? Is that a calculator?” Stowell asked while in character via an Instagram video sharing the same news. Valderrama, who was holding up his iPhone, made a face, replying, “Yeah, let’s go with that.”
NCIS premiered in 2003, following Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his team at the Naval Criminal Investigation Service offices in Washington, D.C. as they solved naval-based crimes. Harmon exited the series in 2021, but the show has continued on, entering its 23rd season this fall.
In October 2024, NCIS: Origins premiered, highlighting a young version of Gibbs (Stowell) in the ‘90s as his career at NIS — which later becomes NCIS — began in Southern California. So how will both shows collide?

Season 23 of NCIS premieres on CBS Tuesday, October 14, at 8 p.m. ET. Season 2 of NCIS: Origins kicks off on CBS the same night at 9 p.m. ET. Additionally, season 3 of NCIS: Sydney premieres that night at 10 p.m. ET.
When Will the Crossover Air?
The crossover event will air on CBS Tuesday, November 11, starting with an all-new episode of NCIS: Origins at 8 p.m. ET. The show will then continue on NCIS at 9 p.m. ET. (Both episodes will also stream on Paramount+.)
What’s the Crossover Story Line About?
The case will begin on NCIS: Origins as “Gibbs and team investigate the small-town death of a naval officer in the ‘90s,” CBS shared. Decades later, the same case is “unexpectedly re-opened in the present day” on NCIS.
Is ‘NCIS: Sydney’ Involved in the Crossover?
NCIS: Sydney is the third CBS franchise with new episodes coming in 2025, however, CBS hasn’t announced that the Australian agents will be part of the Veteran’s Day crossover.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva, meanwhile, made its debut on Thursday on Paramount+, following former NCIS stars Michael Weatherly’s Tony DiNozzo and Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David as they live and coparent in France. It seems unlikely the new show will be involved in the crossover.
