As Dylan Efron’s journey in the Dancing with the Stars ballroom continues, his real-life relationship is taking a bit of a hit.

The 33-year-old has been dating his girlfriend Courtney King since high school, but as his life has changed in the last year — between his winning stint on The Traitors and his successful partnership with Daniella Karagach on this season of DWTS — so, too, has his relationship.

“I would be lying if [I said] Dancing With The Stars wasn’t tough, but I think it’s tougher on Courtney than me,” Efron admitted on the Oct. 13 episode of The Viall Files.

Given that he’s in the studio “five hours a day” and he’s dealing with the repercussions of that — “my brain’s mush, my body hurts,” he said — it leaves Courtney to deal with things on her own, he said.

Efron also revealed that he’s “living outside of our Manhattan Beach place right now, closer to where the studio is,” amid the ongoing competition. “It’s trying right now,” he admitted of juggling the relationship and his journey in the ballroom.

Overall, though, he said he “wouldn’t say much has changed” between the two of them as his fame has skyrocketed.

“The cool thing that’s changed is we started traveling together a lot more. Like, for a lot of these trips I’ll do with brands or whatever, I get to bring her with me,” he told host Nick Viall. “I think incorporating her more into that has helped our relationship a lot.”

Efron also noted that his girlfriend is “so supportive,” and that despite the new challenges that DWTS has introduced, things between them are solid.

“She knows I love her, 100%. So it’s like, we know it’s all temporary, so that’s why I don’t think anything’s really changed,” he explained. “I know it’s hard for us right now, but we’re still where we are. We still love each other and, yeah, we’re in a great place.”

During a previous appearance on The Viall Files, Efron explained that Courtney “doesn’t really like being on camera,” but it “works out really well” for them to have such different careers.

“It’s cool because she’s actually not on social media and she works a 40-hour-a-week job,” he said. “It’s not like I’m hiding her from the world or anything. She understands the job, all that stuff.”
