New Jersey Devils superstar Jack Hughes was spotted having dinner in public with a world-famous pop star in New York after undergoing finger surgery.

Last week, news broke that the 24-year-old Jack Hughes suffered a gnarly cut on his finger at a team dinner that required surgery. It was initially reported that he would miss about eight weeks, but the Devils plan to re-evaluate their franchise player after six weeks.

While Hughes anxiously awaits the green light to resume hockey activities, he may or may not have a significant development in his dating life.

On Friday, a photo of Jack Hughes meeting Canadian pop star Tate McCrae for dinner in New York went viral. Interestingly, McCrae was previously in a two-year relationship with Columbus Blue Jackets center Cole Sillinger.

As far as pro athlete-singer romances go, there’s none bigger than the Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift romance, with the pair getting engaged in August. Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is also dating Madison Beer, and the two were even spotted watching Game 3 of the World Series together.

Are Jack Hughes and Tate McCrae really a thing now? Or are they just friends? Stay tuned.

From 2013 to 2022, New Jersey was among the NHL’s worst franchises, making the playoffs just once in over those 10 seasons (in 2018). But everything began to change when they selected Hughes No. 1 overall back in 2019, one year after the Vancouver Canucks made older brother Quinn Hughes the No. 7 pick.

Per Hockey Reference, Jack Hughes already has 371 points in 385 NHL games. He posted 43 goals and 99 points in the 2022-23 season (a personal best), leading New Jersey to a rare playoff berth and first-round victory over the New York Rangers.

Though Hughes missed 20 games last year, New Jersey returned to the postseason and fell to Carolina in five games. They currently hold the second-best record in the Metropolitan Division with 27 points, just three points behind the Hurricanes for first place.
