Pro Football Hall of Famer John Elway broke his silence Wednesday night after his longtime agent, Jeff Sperbeck, sustained injuries that he could not recover from and passed away following a golf cart crash in California.
“I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck,” Elway said in a statement, via ESPN.
“There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me.
“My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff’s wife, Cori; his children, Carly, Sam, and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him. Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship, and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others.”
Sperbeck, the agent and business partner for NFL Hall of Famer John Elway, died from injuries he suffered during a golf cart accident on April 26, according to TMZ Sports.
The 62-year-old fell off a golf cart being driven by Elway and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He was immediately placed on life support and declared dead on Wednesday by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in California.
He succumbed to his injuries at 1:10 am local time Wednesday morning, four days after the accident occurred, officials announced.
Sperbeck’s wife, Cori, has since released a statement after losing her husband: “We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved Jeff Sperbeck. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, son, and friend to many and will be profoundly missed by all.”
“We are grieving this unimaginable loss as a family alongside our dearest friends the Elway’s and the many other clients Jeff called friends. We are grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of support that we have received and ask for privacy for our family at this difficult time.”

NFL Hall of Famer John Elway’s longtime friend, business partner, and agent, Jeff Sperbeck, tragically lost his life, sustaining serious injuries from a golf cart accident on Wednesday.
Elway was driving the golf cart.
How did this happen?
Sperbeck and Elway were traveling in the vehicle with their wives after attending an after-party at Stagecoach music festival in California.
The Stagecoach Festival is an annual country music festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. This year, it ran from April 25 to April 27.
Sperbeck is said to have suffered a severe injury when he fell off the back of the moving vehicle, rolled, and hit his head on the asphalt.
There is no indication that Elway was driving negligently and is not being accused of wrongdoing now.
