WNBA “Alley-Oop” Is Going Viral & Fans Are Tripping Out [VIDEO] - NewsBreak

Basketball fans thought they were about to witness the first successful alley-oop dunk in WNBA history when the New York Liberty tore away on a fast break against the Washington Mystics earlier this week.

The WNBA has been under fire recently, following a bit of a protest at this year’s All-Star Game. A trend, in which green sex toys are thrown onto the court, has even reached the PGA Tour.

While there have been some notable alley-oop moments in the women’s league, none of them have ever resulted in dunks, but rather lay-ins or tip-ins.

Brittney Griner, known for her ability to stuff the rim, hasn’t quite completed an alley-oop, though she has caught lob passes for finishes.

WNBA Alley-Oop Well Set Up, But Hardly Executed

It appeared, briefly, that we might have a WNBA alley-hoop when Sabrina Ionescu threw a pass to Aerial Powers on a fast break, with Breanna Stewart offered a wide path to the lane.

Powers heaved a lob, which Stweart caught, while grounded, and laid it up.

The clip, which has gone viral on Twitter/X, can be seen below:

“Why did I think she was finna get crazy air time?” one user asked.

“At least she made it. Guessing Queen Mebounds would brick that badly,” said another.

“Y’all swore they couldn’t dunk… now what?” asked a third.

“And they really can’t figure out why they make so much less than  NBA players?” someone else shared.

“Not gonna lie they had me in the first half 😂,” a fan admitted.

“😂They gone be dunking soon ! Humans always evolve,” someone pointed out.

At least one player has been offered a way out amid all the criticism thrown at the league, having received an offer from WWE.

In the meantime, the wait for the first WNBA alley-oop continues.
